The location
On one of the most beautiful beach locations in the Netherlands comes the ONE Villa Hotel. Anyone who has ever been to Domburg will know what I mean. A small-scale high-end hotel on the beach! My heart beats faster at the idea that our design will soon be realized here. Walking along the beach and ending in the wine bar we designed. Where you can enjoy a delicious drink accompanied by fresh Zeeland oysters. I love it!
Twenty-two suites, the common areas, and a wine bar with its own terrace: the interior of the whole hotel. The building is by Alwin Reedijk of WTS Architecten.
The design
An important aspect of our Quiet Luxury style is the use of natural materials, such as natural stone. These natural materials not only create a sense of luxury, but also feel pleasant to the touch and often have a long lifespan. That is why we have applied this in the design of ONE Villa Hotel.
In the realm of hospitality, it's all about the finer details. In my perspective, everything should align seamlessly, ensuring that it tantalizes all the senses of our guests to perfection. While I may not have direct influence over the staff, I do possess the ability to shape the ambiance, down to even the design of the restroom.
The wine bar in ONE Villa hotel, where we bring together materials in an unexpected and harmonious manner. The outcome is a thoughtfully orchestrated hustle and bustle that envelops the spirit of the space. Every detail, from the choice of wood to the texture of fabrics and the gleam of glassware, contributes to the narrative we aim to convey. Within lies the essence of captivating design: the art of thoughtfully uniting elements, where each detail is equally pivotal. This is the wellspring of inspiration for those who find beauty in the subtlety of design, and for those who grasp that true enchantment resides in the details.
Colours and materials
Natural stone, warm wood, woven fabric, glass. Materials chosen as much for how they feel under your hand as for how they look, and for how they age — Quiet Luxury is less about what something costs than about what lasts.
In the wine bar they meet in a way you do not quite expect: stone against warm wood, matte fabric against the gleam of a glass. The palette follows the dune landscape just outside the door.
A boutique hotel that behaves like home.
In my own words
This one is still ahead of us and I catch myself walking through it already: off the beach, into the wine bar, oysters, sand still on your feet. Designing for a place you love is harder than it sounds. You have to keep asking whether a choice is for the guest or for yourself.
